Belly dance costumes

Got some questions about our belly dance costumes from dancers who wonder about our collection. I myself usually wear higher quality costumes with a higher price tag and that category will be in the bazaar.

But consciously, I have chosen to include the categories I call “Student costume” and “Semi pro costume” because the idea of the shop is that we want to spread oriental dance and be an asset for ALL dancers, not just professional dancers who have a high budget to spend on a belly dance costume. We also want the student who performs for the first time to be able to find a belly costume in our collection.

We sell belly dance costumes for student shows at budget prices and designer belly dance costumes for professional performances. The idea is that with us all belly dancers should be able to find the right belly dance costume. We sell both used and new belly dance costumes.

In our collection there are costumes at a low budget price (usually from Asia) that works well for student shows & Haflas. We also sell professional belly dance costumes from Turkey, Egypt, Russia, etc. for those who want finer materials and higher quality.

A professional belly dance costume usually costs between 3000-9000kr with a designer. As with all other fashion, it is the material, quality and design that makes the price tag. A designer belly dance costume usually have sewn on AB crystals, lots of handwork, strong stitches and are made of durable material that can handle sweat and movement of the body.

We describe our belly dance costumes with the following names (from lowest quality to highest quality);

  • Student belly dance costume
  • Semipro belly dance costume
  • Professional belly dance costume
  • Designer belly dance costume

We also describe the material so you can decide what kind of belly dance costume that suits you best.

Do you want to order another size or color? Or are you a dance group who wants to order more belly dance costumes than we have in stock? Contact us with the image of the belly dance costume and describe what you want. Many of our suppliers can make custom orders.

Why does belly dancers wear hip scarves?

Why does belly dancers wear hip scarves?

Hip scarves for belly dance practise. It is said that the hip scarf is decorated with coins because dancers a long time ago sewed on real gold coins on their hip scarves as evidence that they were sought after and talented. It is also alleged that this was a way for the woman to show she was ready for marriage and that the coins on her hip scarf was part of her dowry. However, nobody knows if this is absolutely true.

Regardless, a hip scarf is a decorative and necessary piece of clothing for those who practice oriental dance. The scarf should be tied around the hips with a knot usually on the side or front. It shows your hip movements more clearly by marking your movements. A hip scarf can be made of different materials and with or without decorations such as coins, sequins, beads, crystals and embroidery.

As a beginner, most dancers get a hip scarf with coins. With these scarfs, the dancer can hear when she shimmies and make sharp hip movements. At intermediate level, a hip scarf without coins may be necessary to hear the instruments in the music more clearly. Should you practice oriental dance forms that are performed sitting or lying down, a scarf without loose or chunky decorations may be preferred as these can be damaged or hurt you when being between you and the floor.

Please store your scarf with coins or other decorations in a bag to and from dance practice so that it does not get tangled up and decorations break. Also, be careful not to wash a them in a washing machine, as some decorations may fall of, fade in color or break. If you can, also avoid hand washing. Instead, spray with alcohol and hang the scarf out to dry. This removes bacteria without damaging the decorations.
